Poster's Note: In reviewing my log, I see that there is some interest in this document. Unfortunately, I also saw that part of the document was not readable. This is because of an incompatibility between the standard used to create the document, and the standard used for my web site. I have applied a quick fix that renders the document readable, albeit, slightly different in format, substituting ">>" for a horizontal arrow.
Introduction
Welcome to the Spring 2000 UUCF Strategic Plan.
This UUCF Strategic Plan does not look like plans we’ve had in the past. It’s short and it begins with our mission statement. It’s a list of goals and possible implementation steps identified by lay ministries and committees in our congregation. There is little text or explanation around most of them.
The focus of our new mission -- on spirituality, support for each other and transforming the world through acts of love and justice -- is evident in each group’s goals. During the planning process, each group stepped back from their work to look at what they usually do and why. They questioned what programs and activities are still needed, what is being carried forward "because we always do it that way", and if there are more important needs to address. Every group took at least one goal in a new direction. Many of those changes were spurred by ideas on how we could better support our mission.
We had some unexpected outcomes of the planning process. In some groups, as we struggled through some expectations members have that are based on our smaller church past, we realized that we are a large church, both in numbers and in function. It became more evident that in some areas we need to change our programming to support "large church" functions. In others groups, we simply discussed people’s expectations over time, whether they have changed as the church has grown, and how we can meet those expectations in a reasonable way now.
So the plan, or the map, we have is short. It’s simply an outline of the key goals that excite and energize the lay ministries and committees, and the ways in which they will use their time and talents during the next several years. Our new mission, our size, and our members’ expectations are changing the way UUCF can serve its congregation and community. We want to continue to move through those changes with this strategic plan in hand, using it to help guide decisions and discuss possibilities. This plan is flexible enough for that task.
