Dear Birds,
Hear are some thoughts from the River Road Church's service last Sunday.
The topic was the life of the late A. Powell Davies and his ministry at All Souls UU Church in DC. He was one of the first people to speak publicly agains Joe McCarthy in the 50's, and he took a strong, often initially unpopular stand, on many social issues in the 50's and 60's.
One of the current members of All Souls spoke about an incident that occurred recently at that church.
The minister was well into the sermon, and things seemed to be going pretty well, when he noticed the congregation becoming distracted. There was a rustling at the rear of the church. A woman appeared, in considerable disarray with disheveled hair and clothes, and she started speaking loudly in disjointed sentences, as she proceeded down the aisle toward the minister. The minister then left the pulpit, walked up the aisle to take her hand. He then invited her to come to the pulpit to say what she had to say. She did. She then sat down quietly, and the service continued.
Does this remind you of any incidents at uucf?
You can have all the policies you want; but policies accomplish little without examples in the behavior of the leadership.
