I heard from someone who attended GA, that the UUA asked Jim Nelson to resign his position at UUCF.

Rosalie,
Thanks for the info. Can you verify that? I have been very down on the UUA
since the first Speck report. I felt the UUA had let many of us long time
UUs down big time. It would be nice if they would admit the error of their
ways and issue an apology to the many UUs they disbelieved.

Rosalie and Marcia,
Did Jim attend the Boston G.A.? If the UUA influenced Jim's decision to resign, he did exact a pretty good settlement. If his new employment after March 31 pays less than the $112,973 per an., I believe UUCF pays the difference through Sep. 2004.
Marcia, a member of UUCF, for a long time an arch supporter of JN, told me that she confronted the Revs. Speck and Jonasson about their 2000 report. The reply was something like, "I reported as I saw the situation."
Henry Ticknor has spoken "around" the conflict, and a Rev. Stevens for 2 Sundays has addressed the situation head on. Sundays ago she spoke of human flaws and living with them. Yesterday she gave a down-to-earth sermon on anger. There is plenty of anger at UUCF. Had Jim been able to accept some responsibility, things may have been more pleasant for him.
The Board had 2 special meetings for supporters of Jim. Each Sunday members of the Assoc. Pastors meet with people with questions or strong feelings. (So far there have been Marilyn Renfield, a child psychiatrist; Kathy Birnbaum who has been a Hospice nurse; Linda Hunt Hathaway, a real sweetheart and past Board Pres.; Pat Vernor, Caring Committee and wife of a Board Pres. who earlier supported Jim, who both signed the April 8 letter). Marianne Vakiener who spearheaded the move for JN's resignation was there the 1st Sun. I am more positive that the church will get through this than I expected to be.
Attending UUCF and not hearing or seeing JN and meeting with friends at the Oakton Family Restaurant are great supports for me.
I probably write too much. Hope to see you soon, Billye
